"Platform" → Playbook
Our model of doing politics is broken. The results are self-evident.
At the core of this problem is the approach of today's politicians & our antiquated approach to problem solving.
At the core of this problem is the approach of today's politicians & our antiquated approach to problem solving.
Politicians have become very intellectually lazy and remarkably superficial.
The vast majority simply engage in the process of “checking the boxes” of a party platform which they themselves do not contribute to building, or thoroughly understand the modern mechanics of. They then parrot other people's recycled (and/or bad) ideas. |
Likewise, the party platform itself— made ceremonially each election cycle— is a hollow, static and ill-defined abstraction, kicked across decades.
Quite rarely is there any real layout for how to codify such proclaimed objectives or the step-by-step detailed path provided to strategically implement them.
This needs to change as it is a flawed methodology (model), assuming our goal is to actually solve our problems!

We also need to ensure we have our "best and brightest" and most reasonable guiding us as we embark on the road together in the 21st century; those with the unique bundle of modern skills, subject matter expertise, and vision capable of performing the presently required functions for the State.
This is what our founders demand, and what our people need.
Too often today, our candidates are being chosen and propelled by quite different criteria-- while the political process itself has turned off interest by the right people.

Further, and as something of a harsh truth: based on dramatic changes-- many of which brought on by rapidly transformative technologies-- even the political figures we typically think of as the most "experienced" and "skilled" actually are out-of-date and/or outmatched for what we are up against.
Notwithstanding the benefits of new thinking/thinkers, incumbents often operate as monopolists with the status quo infrastructure serving as a de facto cartel; it’s a type of fiefdom economics that is sincerely under-appreciated, unlikely to self-correct, and severely detrimental to the marketplace of ideas.
The stakes are too high to sugarcoat things: remember, we only get one shot at this, and we are actually all on the same team.

The process of 1st running for Congress helped focus my thinking back on American politics, and it also reinvigorated a sense of personal responsibility.
Through my work, I came to the genuine conclusion that America desperately needs an open-source fixture for the intelligentsia outside of DC-- a growing Library of Law of well-defined solutions to our fundamental domestic and international problems-- and someone to spearhead getting it started.
RA's vision is to produce an end-to-end detailed playbook, the 1.0 of the Library, as something which can provide the United States with a focused direction and a renewed purpose for the decades to come. This is the necessary bridge to a successful tomorrow.
In seeking to provide that service, for the past several years, I’ve been working diligently towards cultivating such (by myself and with collaborators).
We seek to attract as much talent as I can to collaborate with in tackling 23 open problems: called the Problems of Our Time.

This non-partisan & open source initiative articulates a real game plan to accomplish our objective: building America's Playbook for the 21st century.
If we are successful, the 117th+ US Congress will be astronomically more productive than it's been in my lifetime.
